So many hands touch your coffee before it reaches your cup. That's why I want to teach you more about the different parts of the coffee industry, from farming to roasting and brewing!
Here's the journey your coffee takes before it gets to you.
Why El Salvador?
El Salvador may be the smallest country in Central America, but that doesn't stop it from leaving a mark in the coffee industry!
What makes it unique is its volcanoes. The high altitudes and nutrient-rich volcanic soil make El Salvador the perfect place for growing coffee. The farms we work with sit on the slopes of volcanoes like Tecapa and Santa Ana. Meet our farms here.
1. Growing the coffee
Lots of love, time, and care go into each cup of coffee you drink.
The coffee seed takes one to two years to become a tree. The flowering and fruiting stage can take 4 to 7 years.
During this time, coffee producers grow the beans and make sure they're protected from the weather and disease.
2. The harvest
Then, a team of people carefully harvest the beans.
3. The mill
The coffee then goes to the mill, where it is processed and sits for 60 days. Want to know what "processed" means? We break down washed, natural, and honey coffees in Our Coffees Explained.
4. Roasting
Now, it's time to ship the coffee beans to the U.S., where they are roasted at City Bean Roaster in Los Angeles. We work together to enhance the unique flavors of each variety.
5. Brewing
The rest is up to you! Depending on your preferred brewing method, you can enjoy the coffee however you'd like with friends and family. Need some help? Check out our brew guides on the Sip & Learn blog.
